Sumptuous and sophisticated animal patterns, such as leopard, zebra, and cheetah offer a decidedly glamorous look that has been used throughout history to distinguish the upper echelon, from Roman emperors to African tribal chiefs, and modern Hollywood royalty.
In the 18th century, wealthy collectors in England and the colonies were so fascinated by exotic animals that many kept menageries. These appealing creatures inspired exquisite fabric designs, many of which were discovered in archival textiles.

Animal print was used later on by pioneers of interior designer, such as Elsie de Wolfe and Dorothy Parker, to pull the drab homes of the Victorian era into a fresher, more exuberant world of design. These designers used animal patterns by tying in classic elements with the glamorous drama of leopard print upholstery or zebra accents.
The luxurious and timeless appeal of animal prints have made them an ever-present element in both traditional and modern design, adding an accent of pattern and a touch of exoticism to a variety of interior spaces.

Watch the artisanal process used to create Darya Ikat…
Traditional warp printing and hand weaving techniques are used to create this dramatic woven fabric in a crisp blend of linen and cotton yarns. A fine warp is table printed using silk screens and transferred to a loom, where it is carefully woven by hand. This process softens the bold look of the original design. Darya Ikat features an exotically patterned stripe design that gives a new look to ikat. Colorations range from sophisticated neutrals to brilliant jewel and spice shades. The color and weaving variations within each length of fabric are considered hallmarks of an authentic ikat fabric. Darya Ikat is perfect for both drapery and upholstery in a range of interior spaces.

Schumacher introduces new wing chairs to the Furnishings Collection. Each of these classic silhouettes—Madison, Wilshire, Weston and Kent—has been reinterpreted with a refined and modern eye. Our new pieces fit beautifully in contemporary and traditional interiors alike.
Wilshire Wing Chair SH174: The traditional wing chair is updated in this elegant version, adapted from a mid-twentieth century frame. Its gracefully curved back, scrolled arms and slender, tapered wood legs create a refined, glamorous and modern appearance. Nail head detailing outlines the curves of the chair and adds a decorative accent to its form. Wilshire Wing Chair adds a dramatic look to a variety of living spaces.
Madison Wing Chair SH175: This sleek modified wing chair features a slanted, straight back and squared wings, which gently curve into a simplified arm. The clean and modern appearance is enhanced by a spring down box seat cushion that is angled toward its back for comfort. Madison Wing Chair is a versatile choice for main as well as accent seating in modern and traditional living areas.
Weston Wing Chair SH176: This upholstered chair combines a classic slipper with details derived from a traditional wing frame. It features clean and elegant lines, with curved, squared legs and slender wings that taper into the sides of a rounded seat base. The smaller size of this chair makes it a great option for use in a hallway or foyer, at a dining table, or as a side chair in a range of interior spaces.
Kent Wing Chair SH177: This dramatically stylized wing chair is reproduced from a late nineteenth century piece. Its clean lines and form blended with traditional details make it a great addition to a wide range of classic and modern interior spaces.

The classical curule bench has origins in ancient Rome, as the word curule is derived from the Latin word currus, meaning chariot. The term refers to the curved ‘X’ shaped benches designed for magisterial commanders and often elaborately decorated with ivory. In the sixteenth century, the curule form was revived during the Italian Renaissance in Venice, and after the discovery of the Herculaneum in 1738, Roman antiquities made a comeback throughout Europe and the New World.
Today, the classic Italian shape is a sophisticated choice for both modern and traditional interiors, depending on fabric and finish. Schumacher offers Tuscany Curule Bench (SAH8517). This timeless shape has been modernized and features a carved, painted wood base and an upholstered seat. This bench’s versatile size makes it a perfect selection for adding extra seating and a stylish, decorative element to a wide range of interior spaces.

Eyelet textiles offer the light airy feel of true lace and the soft look of delicate embroidery. First created in 1763, eyelet was widely used for silk mitts, gloves, aprons, handkerchiefs, hoods and caps. Initially eyelet was primarily used in fashion, but was well suited for the home as bedding, accent pillows, skirts, throws and drapery, and traditionally sold in white or ivory. Schumacher’s Collection includes a variety of eyelets that offer a twist on this well-known classic.
Camilla Eyelet, a traditional, white-on-white sheer, features a delicate eyelet embroidered in a diamond on a fine cotton cambric ground.
Anastasia Eyelet is a fine embroidery that has been made in a design of tightly woven cotton cambric circles connected by open eyelet embroidery. This new white-on-white eyelet gives a lacy, delicately detailed look to curtains.
Luna Sheer Embroidery has an over scaled eyelet and circle design, for a more modern take on an embroidered sheer. The all ivory coloration is warm and soft and adaptable to the color schemes of many interiors.
