Top of the Strand

On May 25, The Strand Hotel NYC hosted a press preview along with Trina Turk for Schumacher and Marks & Frantz to celebrate the opening of the newly designed Top of the Strand. The rooftop was decked out in Trina Turk’s latest indoor/outdoor fabrics for Schumacher. We think the bold fashion-inspired prints made a huge splash.

From the Archive: The Drab Age is Over

Trina Turk’s fresh originality, bold designs and visual punch are reminiscent of Dorothy Draper’s legendary interiors, which embodied the idea that bigger and brighter was always better.

Dorothy Draper caused a nationwide sensation with her custom-designed cabbage rose chintz for Schumacher. This best-selling pattern began a decades-long collaboration between Draper and Schumacher. The partnership created brilliantly colored textiles, wallpapers and carpets that flourished during the post-war period.

Launched in 2009, Trina Turk’s first collection for Schumacher provided the same uplifting and optimistic use of color that Dorothy Draper’s collections provided after the Great Depression and WWII.

Continuing in this tradition, Trina Turk’s second collection for Schumacher offers a splash of vivid colors and graphic impact to uplift interiors everywhere.

St. Louis Inspired

When Amie Corley redesigned her 1907 St. Louis home, she was just starting her career as an interior decorator. The work she did in her own home inspired her friends to ask for help with their interiors and from there Corley began Amie Corley Interiors: “Textiles and wallpaper are always her starting point and Amie’s interiors express a love of texture, big doses of color and mixing antiques with mid-century modern, with her Louisiana roots providing great inspiration.”

Tell us what you think of Corley’s use of local influences, texture and color…
